Nobody Can Deny the Worship of Nitai

Many people challenge the Godhood of Nitai saying that there are not enough direct proofs of His Godhood in the Vedic scriptures. On this basis they may also challenge our worship of Nitai in the form of Nitai Vayulekhan. Let us master a simple argument which will enable us to defend our worship of Nitai in front of those who are not ready to accept that Nitai is God Balaram. We know that such people do accept that Nitai was a great devotee of Krishna. They only have a problem in accepting the Godhood of Nitai. The fact that they demand and value scriptural proofs indicates that they must have some faith in the scriptures. Their faith in the scriptures will ultimately help us in defeating their opposition. Even if we can’t present to them many scriptural proofs of Nitai’s Godhood (as Nitai is a very confidential incarnation just like Gaur), we can surely quote the following verses from the scriptures which will make our case for Nitai’s worship even more strong:

Shrimad Bhagwatam

mad-bhakta-pujabhyadhika sarva-bhuteshu man-matih

“Worshiping My devotees is better than directly worshiping Me.”

Adi Purana

ye me bhakta-janah partha
na me bhaktash ca te janah
mad bhaktanam ca ye bhaktas
te me bhaktatamah matah

“My dear Partha, those who claim to be My devotees are not My devotees, but those who claim to be devotees of My devotees are actually My devotees.”

Padma Purana

aradhananam sarvesham vishnor aradhanam param
tasmat parataram devi tadiyanam samarcanam
arcayitva tu govindam tadiyan narcayet tu yah
na sa bhagavato jneyah kevalam dambhikah smritah

“Of all types of worship, worship of Lord Vishnu is best, and better than the worship of Lord Vishnu is the worship of His devotee, the Vaishnava. One who performs worship of Lord Govinda but fails to worship His devotees should be understood to be not a devotee of the Lord but simply a victim of false pride.”

Shandilya-smriti

siddhir bhavati va neti samshayo ‘cyuta sevinam
nihsamshayas tu tad bhakta paricaryaratatmanam
kevalam bhagavat-pada-sevaya vimalam manah
na jayate yatha nityam tad bhakta-caranarcanat

“One may doubt whether the servant of the Supreme Personality of Godhead will attain perfection, but there is absolutely no doubt that those who are attached to serving His devotees will attain perfection. One’s mind is not as fully purified by serving the lotus feet of the Supreme Lord as it is by serving the feet of His devotees.”

Thus, we can easily convince such people that Nitai’s worship in the form of Nitai Vayulekhan is not at all a deviation from the scriptures or the traditional path of Krishna-bhakti. It is in fact a real means to please Krishna to the highest possible extent. It will grant us surety that Krishna will accept us as His servant because we are worshipping His pure devotee. So even if one does not accept Nitai’s Godhood on the basis of scriptures one cannot deny or oppose Nitai’s worship on the basis of the same scriptures. With this argument we will always win. If a person accepts Nitai as God then also we win and if He accepts Nitai as a devotee then also we win. In fact, the victory in the latter case would be even more indisputable.
