Nitai Vayulekhan Awards Taste for Harinam

prema-bhakti jaha hoite, avidya vinasha jate

In the famous Guru Vandana that we sing every day, it is mentioned by Shrila Narrotam das Thakur, that by the grace of Shri Guru, avidya (ignorance) is destroyed and loving devotional service is awakened in the heart of the devotee. This prayer in glorification of Shri Guru is also applicable to Nitai as He is Adi Guru, the Guru of all Gurus. In fact, it is applicable to Nitai to an even greater extent as Nitai dwells in the heart of every living entity as the supersoul (Chaitya Guru) and can easily and permanently cure the disease of ignorance at its root. Thus, ignorance can be destroyed by the mercy of Nitai as well. And Nitai’s mercy is obtained by Nitai Vayulekhan as Nitai’s heart instantly melts for a devotee who writes His Name in air with faith and clear visualization. Now let us see how ignorance is connected with taste for the Holy Names of Krishna.
In the 7th verse of the Upadeshamrita by Shrila Rupa Goswami, the real reason why one does not relish the Holy Names of Krishna has been specified as nothing but ignorance.

“syāt kṛṣṇa-nāma-caritādi-sitāpy avidyā-
pittopatapta-rasanasya na rocikā nu
The holy name, character, pastimes and activities of Kṛṣṇa are all transcendentally sweet like sugar candy. However, the tongue of one afflicted by the jaundice of avidyā [ignorance] cannot relish them.”

It is simple to understand that if ignorance is removed then one will certainly develop taste for chanting the Hare Krishna Mahamantra. We have already proved how Nitai destroys ignorance. Thus, the conclusion is that Nitai Vvayulekhan leads to increased taste for chanting the Hare Krishna Mahamantra as it is the most potent tool to destroy ignorance which is the root cause of distaste for Harinam.
