O Nitai! Who am I to cause the slightest pain, discomfort, or sadness to your beloved devotees? Is there any greater misuse of my free will than this? What a fool I am!
He Nitai! No matter how much I try to serve you or please you, everything is useless unless I learn to please your devotees and serve them wholeheartedly with utmost respect.
He Nitai! I think I aspire to attain your love. But if I were really serious then I would not maintain so much envy and hatred towards your devotees.
A Vaishnav is not supposed to give pain to any living entity. But I’m such a wretch that I dare to cause pain and inconvenience to the rarest and holiest Nitaibhakts.
My casual behavior towards your devotees shows how low is my regard and devotion for you Nitai.
Narrotam das Thakhur says “Nitai pada sada karo ash”.. That is, 24*7 hanker for the attainment and service of Nitai’s lotus feet. I wish I could hanker like this for a single moment at least. But I have no time. I’m 24*7 engrossed in hankering for material pleasures and making unlimited plans for sense gratification and self-aggrandizement.
Lord Krishna (apparently) left Vrindavan at a very young age along with Lord Balaram. All Vraja-vasis experienced intense Viyog (separation) because of that. Krishna also felt the same Viyog from the Vraj-vasis. However, Balaram could not experience the same as Krishna always kept Him by His side. Not could Krishna experience separation from Lord Balaram like He felt from other Vraj-vasis. Hence, when Krishna came as Gaur, He fulfilled this desire also when He went to Puri along with His desire of relishing Radha-bhav. He sent Nitai to East Bengal for distributing Krishna-prem to one and all. And here in Puri, He experienced intense separation from Nitai. Simply by chanting Nitai’s name He would fall unconscious on the ground. And the same happened with Nitai when He was away from Gaur. He would shout “Aha re! Gauranga!” and He would fall down on the ground drenching His body with His own tears.
So this is a secret desire of both the brothers which got fulfilled in this Lila. In fact, in this most confidential Nitai Gaur Lila, the innermost desires of the Lords and all the associates got surprisingly fulfilled.
निताइ! The Hare Krishna Mahamantra is replete with Radhey-Shyam’s love for each other. Radha’s love for Krishna and Krishna’s love for Radha. The Mahamantra is not just the glorification of Radha and Krishna, it is the glorification of their unparalleled love. It is overflowing with the divine couple’s madness for each other. We celebrate their eternal love by singing the Mahamantra! निताइ!
निताइ! We can’t imagine how grateful Jagai and Madhai must be to Nitai throughout their lives. Everyday they must be crying profusely in gratitude. Their every drop of tear was a testimonial of Nitai’s unparalleled mercy. निताइ!
King Prataparudra wanted to meet Gauranga Mahaprabhu desperately. But Mahaprabhu was adamant not to meet a king as He was playing the role of a Sannyasi. Prataparudra became so desperate that he was going to give up his kingdom and become a mendicant. He had lost all hopes of meeting Mahaprabhu. He felt completely dejected.
“The Lord has descended just to deliver all kinds of sinful, lowborn persons. He has even delivered sinners like Jagai and Madhai. But it seems that He has made a promise to deliver the entire universe with the exception of someone named Prataparudra. He may have sworn not to see me, but I have sworn to give up my life if I cannot see Him. Without Shri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu’s mercy, my life and kingdom are worthless.” (Chaitanya Charitamrita 2.11.45-6, 48-9)
At this point, Nitai came to his rescue. Our Doyal Nitai is an expert in rescuing everyone.
Nitai requested Mahaprabhu to give His used loincloth (bahirvasa) to Prataparudra. Mahaprabhu agreed and Nitai asked Govinda for the loincloth and sent it to the King via Sarvabhauma Bhattacharya. Prataparudra was overjoyed to receive the cloth and he began to worship it as though it were the Lord Himself.
This is a very deep Lila of Nitai. Nitai knew that without adequately worshipping Him, King Prataparudra will not be able to attain the lotus feet of Gaurasundar. That is why He made this arrangement.
“He (Nitai) serves Lord Krishna, assuming all the following forms: umbrella, slippers, bedding, pillow, garments, resting chair, residence, sacred thread and throne.” (Chaitanya Charitamrita Adi 5.123)
We know that the garments of Gaur-Krishna are non-different from Nitai. He sent Himself to Prataparudra so that after worshipping Nitai (in the form of the loincloth of Gaur) the king becomes qualified to attain Gaur-Krishna’s direct audience. Can anyone imagine to what extent Nitai goes to unite the Jivas with the Supreme Lord? Can anyone bypass His mercy and worship and directly seek the audience of Gaur-Krishna? Simply not possible!
